Intro to Arm Balances

Arm balances are among the most invigorating, yet intimidating, of yoga postures. Biomechanically, arm balances connect the upper body with the lower body via the core and are the epitome of yoga in action—uniting the oppositions of strength/flexibility, stability/buoyancy, and effort/relaxation into one. When performed safely, intelligently, efficiently, the benefits of arm balances are many.

“Intro to Arm Balances” with Ananda is designed to help you move beyond fear, build better balance, strength, and stability (while having fun!) so as to confidently integrate arm balances into your yoga repertoire.
This workshop is designed to:
- Differentiate arm balances into two basic categories: bent arm and straight arm
- Establish four foundational building blocks of the arm balance:
shoulder stability, wrist protection protocol, core integration, hip mobility - Review the biomechanics of chaturanga dandasana as the major component of bent arm balances
- Practice bakasana (crow pose)
The use of props, modifications and instructor assistance will safely guide you through the journey of moving beyond perceived limitations to defy gravity.
