Diving Into Forrest Yoga: Breath. Integrity. Strength. Spirit.

21 January 2024

Diving Into Forrest Yoga: Breath. Integrity. Strength. Spirit.

Join guest teacher Beatrice Petrini at The House of Yoga in the new year to discover the practice of Forrest Yoga.

Forrest Yoga is a style of yoga named by and after Ana T Forrest in 1982. It is known for its long holding of positions, emphasis on abdominal core work, and standing series that can go on for 20 poses on each side.

Through this style, Ana Forrest aimed to create a ceremonial space for the practice of yoga where elements of Eastern philosophy blend with Native American traditions and are subsequently applied to the Western lifestyle and society.

In Forrest Yoga, practitioners work and move predominantly from their center, their core, using  steady deep breathing and long holds through asanas that will target a so-called trigger point.

Through our trigger point we can become aware of those areas where we hold stagnant feelings or emotions we tend to shy away from. When awareness  targets  such  areas we create a platform to shift those behavioral patterns, conditioning, blockages that cause pain and restrictions in our body, mind and practice.

The practice itself  becomes a mirror to see and observe our subconscious, allowing it to become consciousness.

Forrest Yoga is a creative, freeing and exhilarating practice based on the principles of BREATH – INTEGRITY – STRENGTH – SPIRIT.

During this 3-hour long workshop, Beatrice will give a strong emphasis to breathwork.

Breath is one of the 4 pillars of Forrest Yoga. It’s considered power, it’s that one loyal friend who accompanies us from birth to death, it’s the very fuel that sparks up every movement and action. When changing the way we automatically breathe, we unlock the potential of changing response and attitude towards life situations and experiences.

We will therefore learn and assess the biomechanical hierarchy of breathing to minimize compensation, and invite a quality of ease and effortlessness in our Yoga practice and in our lives.

Alongside a Forrest Yoga practice, this workshop will also integrate principles of traditional Eastern Asian Medicine and biomechanics.

The workshop includes:

  • Intention Setting through ceremony, meditation and mantra chanting
  • Breathwork
  • Forrest Yoga asana practice
  • A long Shavasana to help integrate

This workshop is open to all levels, bodies and lineages. In Forrest Yoga we celebrate our uniqueness by offering variations of asanas to suit our individual bodies and needs!
