Intro to the Ashtanga Intermediate Series
Sunday, 11 October 2026
An in-depth workshop exploring the foundations and structure of the Ashtanga Intermediate Series. Open to anyone with a regular Ashtanga practice.
This workshop begins with a short introduction to the Ashtanga practice, exploring the differences between the first series, Yoga Cikitsā (therapy), and the second series, Nāḍī Śodhana (purification of the nervous system).
We’ll look into the meaning behind the sequences, why each posture matters, and how the practice is intelligently structured with each asana preparing the body and mind for what comes next. Rather than a fully guided flow class, this will be a workshop-style space.
Together, we will:
- Break down selected postures from the intermediate series
- Explore progressions, drills, and supportive exercises
- Understand how to approach more complex shapes step by step
- Learn traditional entries and exits, staying as close as possible to the lineage
This workshop is accessible to everyone with a regular (ashtanga) practice. It’s not about achieving all the poses, but about understanding the pathway. This is an opportunity to expand your knowledge and connection to the practice.
We will mainly explore the first half of the second series depending on timing and group pace. The workshop will begin with a few rounds of sun salutations and the opening sequence to properly prepare the body, and will end with the traditional finishing sequence.
